Questions about bikeboxer

I don't have an e-bike, can I still wear bike boxers?

Yes, you can also wear bike boxers if you ride a non-electric bike.

Bikeboxer's cycling underwear is designed with the idea that e-bike riders will primarily wear them. E-bikes are typically used for longer rides. And the electric assistance puts less pressure on your legs, increasing pressure on your seat. This is why e-bikes are more likely to cause saddle sores.

If you ride longer distances on your regular bike or on your touring/trekking bike and you don't want to wear tight cycling clothes, you can still use bike boxers.

What is the difference between the regular bike boxer and the endurance bike boxer?

The difference between the normal bike boxer and the Endurance version is the chamois used in the cycling underwear.

First, a bit about the origins. Until the early 1980s, cycling shorts were made of genuine chamois leather. They were difficult to clean, very fragile, and had to be oiled after every wash to keep them supple. These days, chamois pads are made of synthetic material. Much more durable, much more comfortable, and much more hygienic. Long live progress!

The chamois used by Bikeboxer is produced in Italy by TMF, one of the world's best chamois manufacturers. The chamois we developed for our standard Bikeboxer is distinguished by its compactness (thinness) while providing ample comfort. You'll barely notice it's there, and it's invisible under your clothing. For rides up to about 80km (4 hours in the saddle), the standard Bikeboxer generally performs perfectly.

The endurance chamois has a bit more volume thanks to an extra layer of T-NOVIB shock-absorbing foam (approximately 3mm extra). This extra foam layer provides more comfort while cycling. The endurance chamois is also slightly less visible under clothing than our regular bike boxers. For longer bike rides (80km or more / longer than 4 hours), the endurance version is more suitable.

If you have a bike with a very hard saddle (e.g. the well-known Brooks saddle) or you have a very sensitive seat, we also recommend an endurance bike boxer.

How can I return my bike boxer?

If you'd like to try on your bike boxers after receiving them, please do so over your underwear. If you'd like to go a size up or down, or return the bike boxers after trying them on, you can register your return in two ways.

1) Go to your account on our website and indicate that you want to exchange or return your bike boxer.

2) Send an email to info@sportsbasics.nl stating your order number and indicating that you wish to exchange (which size would you like to receive back) or return.

In both cases, you will receive a return label from us within 24 hours with an explanation of how to return the item.

Does a bike boxer prevent all types of saddle pain?

We distinguish several types of saddle pain:

Sit bone pain : With good posture, most of the pressure is on your sit bones. Especially if you haven't cycled for a while, this can be very painful. The pain can even linger for several days. The bikeboxer chamois is very compact, yet provides that extra level of comfort, allowing you to cycle comfortably for much longer. To be honest, even a bikeboxer won't help if you're untrained and embark on a very long bike ride. By cycling more often, you'll build up a certain degree of saddle hardness.

Pain from friction: when you ride your bike in regular underwear, friction quickly occurs at the seams of your underwear and at the points of your seat where the pressure is greatest. Underwear that rides up in the groin area can also significantly hinder your cycling enjoyment after just a few kilometers. Regular underwear also absorbs perspiration, making your skin extra vulnerable to irritation. Bikeboxer has no seams in the areas subject to pressure. The specially developed fabric of bikeboxer keeps your skin dry and therefore highly resistant to skin irritation.

Saddle pain due to poor cycling posture : consider tailbone pain, for example. Be sure to check out our "cycling posture" page.

How was I a bike boxer?

You can simply machine wash your bike boxers at 40 degrees Celsius. Don't put them in the dryer, as this will cause them to lose their elasticity. This isn't necessary, as your bike boxers dry very quickly. If you prefer to wash your bike boxers by hand, you can, of course. We do ask that you avoid using fabric softener when washing, as this is detrimental to the silicone grippers and elastic in the long run.

Camping tip for hand washing : roll your bike boxers up in a towel after washing (don't wring them!). That way, they're guaranteed to be fresh and dry the next morning.

Which size bike boxer should I choose?

Compared to regular underwear, bike boxers are slightly less stretchy. The fabric needs to stay snug against your body while cycling. Therefore, we've chosen to base our sizing on clothing and jeans sizes. If you know your clothing or jeans size, you can use our size chart to determine the right size. If you're between two sizes, choose the larger size.
